I'm starting to see the fun side of interviewing lots and lots of people. I can tell the same jokes over and over again, and they always get a laugh!
There was one person who didn't laugh. Maybe I shouldn't hire her? Haha just kidding she'll probably be coming aboard.
I also got word that we are likely adding a whole bunch of new volunteer positions, so I now have to hire a much bigger staff. Sounds like it'll be interesting.
After work, the guys cancelled their visit yet again. But Stokes came over anyway and we went to see The Informant at Silvercity. It was good, but the advertisement campaign didn't do it justice. They used one style of jokes for the previews and not the majority of the film. It isn't just a comedic film, there's much more to it. Very Steven Sodobourgh (I just know I spelled that wrong). Matt Damon was pretty good, and I was happy to see Tony Hale and Patton Oswalt in it. To me, Matt Damon was like a much more stupid Leonardo Dicaprio in Catch Me If You Can. His character was great. Particularly his 90s glasses made me laugh.

Life's Small Pleasures
Got the mail minutes before the rain started. Its nice because I just did my hair.
Something small to smile about :)

What's a Twit?
In my opinion, all of these networking pages are getting out of control. They're definitely useful, I even use facebook to advertise my shows, but the sellling point for each one is something kinda lame, just differently lame from the one that came before.
Twitter seems like a waste of time to me. I am holding out on getting it for as long as I can. If I ever did get it, I would only use it for work. So I likely will never have it.
Facebook is trying to keep up by being like Twitter, but that's just making Facebook crappier. I don't care about status updates. I use facebook to keep in touch, share group photos, and create group invites more easily than e-mail for calling people.
I don't even know what flickr is.

I have an addiction...
Amazon.ca
Its sick, really.
But I got some more good discounts. The full soundtrack to the 2004 film Phantom of the Opera was $14.99 (39.99 in stores), and I got a book I've been looking for. Literally, it cost only 1 cent! That just fuels my addiction :p.

Yawn...
Without my morning carpool, mornings are a real pain in the ass. I am shocked that I can still move.
Interviews today went well. Three people didn't show up (don't confirm the interview if you're not coming!) but everyone that did come was cool. I'm hiring most of them. They all loved the fact that we had a dog in the office. One of my co-workers Liz likes to bring her dog Sammy into the office, and she is such a friendly little dog. She kept the applicants busy while they waited, or so I hear.
Plans this weekend: both Laura and the guys want to hang out, we'll see who actually makes it over. My friends are procrastinators supreme.

Good day
I went to Hamilton to see my former roommate Miranda before she goes to London for a grad program. We had a nice bite at Boston Pizza, and she gave me my university yearbook, which came ot my old address. She also found one of my old movies that I thought another former roommate had stolen. Then I went to see the guys, we played Left 4 Dead and watched several episodes of Flight of The Concords. Brilliant show.
I saw another Fame trailer today. It might be ok, I'll have to give it a chance.
Tomorrow day off, Wednesday is job interview out of town. Thursday I do my own interviews.

I feel 15 Again
My folks are out of town for two weeks. I'm here cat sitting. I've been living at home for almost a year now, so them being gone makes me fill like I'm in my teens again, enthusiastic that I get the place to myself.
Theme park Canada's Wonderland asked me to come in and talk about working weekends as a stage tech again. At first I thought, no way, I'm too advanced in my career to go back there, I'm not in university anymore. But then I thought, I've done volunteer shows this year, apparently I'm too snobby to get paid? So I got over myself and I'm going to go talk to them. I wouldn't mind the extra money anyway, even though they don't pay too well. Working on a big musical is nice anyway. Most theatres I work at don't have that kind of tech, so its nice to use it once and a while.

This whole hip hop trend...
I don't really understand why everyone in Hollywood seems to think that adding hip hop or rap to a musical makes it culturally relevant. I saw a trailer today for the upcoming film Fame, and it is of course now hip hop oriented. What happened to the musical? So many people prefer melodies to beats. What they don't seem to realize is they are taking away the magic that made these musical popular in the first place.
Don't get me wrong, even though I hate hip hop I get that others like it. There should be some films that include it. But this attitude that adding it into films for the sake of novelty is painful to watch. Yes yes I know, it makes money, but how many people who watched Fame when it was on TV now listen to Snoop Dogg? (or some other rapper who's actually more popular, that I don't know because I'm out of touch with it).
My main point: novel concepts are pointless. Quality speaks for itself.

Laziness
The problem with working only two days a week right now is that my body can't adjust to having to get up at 7 only then. Today, I slept until 11:30. That's earlier than yesterday.
Next week, it'll be a 6am wake up for work. My folks are going to the East Coast to visit family, so I have to get myself to the train station in the mornings. I'm going to have to go to the closer station, which I usually don't go to because at certain times (like late at night) no transit goes there. I buy ten way tickets, and theatre makes my hours irregular, so I buy for where I am most likely to end up at the end of the day.
What makes it worth it is that right now I'm working on the Gemini Awards. That's resume gold.

First Post
Today I have decided to create a blog of my own. Not because I'm silly enough to think that anyone actually cares to read about my boring life, but because I have put my dreams of writing on hold to focus on becoming a stage manager, and now I want to try writing again. The best way to get my writing up to par is to once again write every day. I am just about the worst procrastinator in the world, I drop every single diary that I start. But lately my life has been about making my life a little bit better.
Things have not been going my way lately. I have been single for a very long time. I have been barely employed for who knows how long. I've gained around 20 pounds. I am not one to typically care about my weight, but I have concern because all of the women in my family lose the ability to eat whatever they want and all have gotten big. I fear that this is happening to me now. Many of my friends have moved on, but I have not. I've been living at home, and whenever I say I'm leaving, my father says something to belittle my self-esteem and make me forget what I was talking about. Something like, you can't afford that, and no one will help you if you move out. Of course, my parents don'tunderstand why I went into the arts in the first place. Sometimes I think they're trying to give me subtle punishments to say how they really feel.
So lately I have been trying to rectify these problems. I have a temp job at the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and I am still looking for work after that. I go on the treadmill almost every day to try and keep healthy. Also, I try to make an effort to stay in better contact with my friends. Until I move to Toronto, the bf situation won't be fixed (I don't want anyone local when its my goal to get the hell out of here) but if I can fix these other problems then I'll feel much better.
Here are some facts about me. I am a natural blonde cursed with brown eyebrows, blue-eyed, shy when I first meet people but exuberent when I know you well. I have two cats named Nyx and Sedna. My two career goals are to be a professional theatre stage manager and to be a writer. Theatre is a career goal less than ten years old, but I've dreamt of being a writer off and on since childhood. I feel that I should accomplish something in that area outside of high school. WHen I was applying to theatre programs, York University rejected me and tried to bump me into their creative writing program instead. In the end, I decided to reject it because I can still write with the degree that I have, but I couldn't do much else with creative writing.
That's enough for now. Let's see how long I can keep this blog running for.
